Ottoman Dreams: a Flat—Screen-TV Cover

 38” wide x 45” high

Materials: Hand-dyed cottons, red dupioni silk, red cotton chintz, batting, and felt.

We wanted to keep the flat-screen HD TV covered when not in use, but we didn’t want to put it in a large cabinet. I created a fiber-art TechnoCover to solve the problem and to provide an attractive visual addition to our living room. I designed the TechnoCover as a riff on the colors in our Turkish carpets and Kilim-upholstered furniture. Historic Ottoman tents and pavilions were the inspiration for the design. Hand-dyed cottons were cut to form abstract tents and pavilions, then quilted to batting and red chintz backing. The pieces were then partially sewn to the red dupioni silk background and the red chintz backing, using various glitzy threads. The pieces seem to float against the background since they are not completely sewn down. The dupioni silk was quilted to the backing with glitzy threads.

The TechnoCover drapes over the top of the TV but doesn’t cover the vents on the back.
