Raven Mask
Genesis: May 2008
Approximately 15” from back of fringe to tip of beak; 11” wide at tips of feather fringe; 13” tall . With staff, 32" tall. Materials: Styrofoam manikin head, hollowed out, painted black; black jacquard silk feathers, individually cut and glued into place; real feather fringe; air-drying clay beak, painted black; sparkly red felt tongue; vintage Swarovski™ cut-crystal beads for eyes; oak staff. Comments: I was commissioned to make a raven mask—“not a pretty bird, but one that’s kind of menacing, sinister.” Mission accomplished.
For more information on ravens, see RavenLord and RavenLady entries. COMMISSIONED; IN PRIVATE COLLECTION IN SANTA FE, NM
